Website Anniversary, Year [2] !

Well, here, we, GO!
If the last update made a week ago was not evidence enough, I have lost interest in the blog and the site overall. And by choosing to unsubscribe and allowing ads to play on the site, I feel less compelled or obligated to do a monthly post. I have removed the repeating notification for every first wednesday from my calendar and from here on, I will be posting whenever I feel the need, such as I have a book update, I’ve written an interesting article or story to share or something relevant to writing that might be worth posting.
I knew that once I missed a blog update and posted late, that would mark the beginning of the end for my motivation. Full confession right here, I gave myself a break from writing last friday (10/9) after the BAMF writing session I had on Wednesday (10/7). And on that friday, I went on crunchyroll and watched some animes I have been interested in. Some I tried watching the first episode and could not get into them. One, called “Tomb Raider King” was like “Pokemon” meets “Solo-Leveling” and I enjoyed it, for a while.
During my viewing of TRK, I had the computer open and pecked away at the blog update I should have done and posted on Wednesday. But my attention span and motivation was crap that day. My brain just would not focus on the blog update. Finally, TRK came to the final episode which had not been dubbed yet and I decided to wait to watch it later. And that was when I decided to focus more on the post and finish it late in the day.
That October update is by far the saddest and shortest blog post on the site. It is very clear my interest in this whole thing has diminished greatly. I think it's because I’m not the type of person who likes to share anything personal going on in my life. That and I do not live an exciting life and I am perfectly fine with that. Looking back, Colorify’s AI pictures were the last really fun and interesting post I did on the site. I had so much fun with those derpy pics and enjoyed poking fun at them.
But lately AI has become a negatively viewed inevitability that promises to change our way of life forever, kind of like how the interest has for the last thirty years. Which brings me to the ominous [THE END . . .?] pic that headlines this article. I will be blunt. No one is coming to the site. And I doubt anyone will come to the site without the aid of social media. And I HATE social media. Let me repeat:
I, Buck Bloom, HATE social media.
I honestly believe that social media is a cancer and ultimately a negative force on the daily lives of everyone. I know that's a real downer point of view but I have not engaged with social media since my attempt of sharing the site on Blue Sky. And damn, the only thing I found interesting on Blue Sky was the impressive amount of hentai that was being shared. Beyond that, it was as always for me with social media, visual noise that hurts my brain and makes my soul cringe. I HATE social media.
I believe that for every [1] positive impact social media brings, there are [100] negative things that it does to the world. Things like privacy, decency, and common sense are victims of the ever growing tumor of social media. Which brings me to the point of this post and why I chose to interact with the site differently going forward:
I refuse to engage with social media, therefore I am well aware that my work may never be noticed. This sucks to admit. But I have to be honest with myself. I REFUSE to engage with social media of any kind. And I know this damns me to obscurity. And this stance should make me sad or depressed or even a little angry at my unwillingness to move with the times. But by typing this honest statement, I feel a huge weight being lifted off my shoulders. I have been wanting to type this since the very beginning of the site’s construction. Zach convinced me to make a site because other writers have found followings by sharing their stuff with social media. My site has been fun for a while. But it is lost to the void without a social media outlet. And to that, I say:
“To HELL with social media. Of any kind.”
I am not the kind of person that likes attention. Attention to me is a negative thing. If I truly wanted attention and a huge following, I would have posted nonsense on Youtube back in 2007 when the site was fresh and new. I would have made a group page about something and trolled away on Facebook back in 2010. If I really cared about my number counts on Blue Sky, I would have kept posting away. Here is a fact for anyone reading this to chew on:
I don’t post on social media. I am not on any forums or community threads. I am not on Reddit or TikTok or any of that fast pace, madness! I am so much of a non-engaging-entity on the internet, I don’t even view my own posts on my own website! So many of my posts still have [0] views and they are the posts that were monthly updates that I care less and less about as time goes on. The actual articles I wrote and took time with and had FUN making are the ones I come back to. So there is no real need for a monthly update anymore, if I’m not going to put effort into making them interesting even to ME!
I do not have much of an ego. I’m not the kind of person that needs other’s approval to feel good. I could be perfectly fine writing away with my own project and only Zach ever reads them with me. But, honestly, I’ve got so much stuff that I would not mind publishing some of it and having fun discussions with other people. And one day my stuff will be published. But I am not wasting my life away on posting on a dozen social media outlets in hopes to make it big. If I wanted to make it big, I would have been big by now.
You know, I have been avoiding really negative posts like this one because they are not fun. Admitting that I am not like most other people on the internet who love to engage with stuff is pretty dark. But that is the kind of person I am. I am a nonsocial person. I always have been and always will be. But I had so much fun and joy writing that short story on Wednesday and NOT worrying about the blog that . . . why care?
No one is reading them. I am not even reading most of them when I am done writing them. HELL! There is a kind of sick and twisted pride in knowing that no one, not even me, viewed or commented on the site. I feel almost justified in not worrying about the blog anymore. Not even a wandering bot bothered to view my blog. That is amazing, in an existential crisis sort of way.
As for the site becoming free with aids, well, I have no clue how this is going to work. If it does at all. I know I will lose the domain name of buckbloombooks.com and I was willing to spend to keep it. But I have to pay the full subscription if I want to keep it. And the answer to that is a polite and quiet: no. Damn this whole thing has gotten depressing, how about I talk about something more fun.
I wrote erotica in this short story Wednesday. I wrote the most gross and raunchy thing I could muster out of my brain after long hours and hours of writing, because of course I had to save the nastiest thing for the end. I might be patting myself on the back a little prematurely. I’m certain there are other erotic stories written that are way, way wilder then I could imagine. But by Cthulhu’s tentacle face, it was the most cathartic and amazing writing session I have had in such a long time. I want more of those. I want to keep writing and enjoy what I do. And that is what I intend on doing going forward.
The site will remain as long as I can have it up. It will be under a new domain name and will likely be harder for people to find. And I will post again. When? I have no clue. I know I will post when Zach and I’s next book comes out, “The Last Job 2: Case of Gabriel Manor”. And maybe I will write a retrospective New Year article like I did last year. Above all else, I have made a reminder for October 16 of next year.
I would like to focus on quality over quantity going forward. A weekly update for a year was a wild thing to do and that drained me. A monthly update for a year proved that I do eventually lose interest. A yearly post is doable, provided that I don’t completely forget about the site by then. I have been writing this post long enough. Time to post it and go back to proofreading that short story. I call it “Oath of Oak” and I do hope when it is finally published, people enjoy it. I enjoyed writing it. And at the end of the day, that is all that matters.
Good Luck and see you next time!
—BUCK
PS: This post is already 5 times as long as the last update post. Yeah, time to save posting for when I really want to from here on. And OMG! A hidden PS?! Did you miss these? 😁
