Ennui is a fun word to say but not fun to experience.
It just sits on my head, feasting on my brain, the horror, the horror!

So, I think I know what’s been up with my motivation. Ennui. An ouroboros of boredom, boredom eating itself. I don’t do anything so I get bored. And since I’m bored, I’m not motivated to do anything. And I really want to do something. The seed is there and if I can just break through this cycle, the seed will grow into a bamf tree.

Hopefully, after I write this blog, turn off the podcast, I will get to typing and write something interesting.

I’m currently listening to Luke Ski’s Animation and Stuff Podcast. Right now two comedy musicians are talking about songs from Dan Akyroyd movies. So distracting because they are playing clips from the songs and all of them are pretty catchy. I mean one of them is “Ghostbusters” which is a no brainer.

I also have succumbed to Loop Hero several times this week. I have too much Ennui to bother playing other games. But Loop Hero still holds my attention. Why? I have no idea. The game just fascinates me that much and if a Loop Hero 2 ever was released, I’m there day one.

My tabletop gaming group has been playing an Avatar setting for a year and we finally wrapped up season one. Element bending Avatar, not big blue kitty people Avatar (though that would be hilarious to do for a future game). Zach had been the GM for a while and leave it to my fellow co-author to make a compelling season finally cliffhanger. I will not give away the plot but it hooked me so much that I kind of want to continue our Avatar game.

My group is going to start a Starwars game next with one friend stepping up to the plate as GM. I’m looking forward to it and maybe will talk about it in November because the game is on the last weekend in October. I’m going to play a mid-max Wookiee that is all about punching and punching hard. Also soak up damage like a tank. Basically I’m playing a furry tank and I am so looking forward to it.

The system for the Starwars game uses the dice with the funky symbols I believe were featured in the last blog update. I’ve been practicing interrupting how the symbols work, which has been fun. The company that made the Starwars game and dice tried their hand in making an original system called “Genesys” which takes the rules and changes the symbols on the dice to be more streamlined.

This allowed the company, Fantasy Flight Games, to make an RPG system that could branch out to multiple genres including fantasy, modern day, and even sci-fi but without the Starwars IP. Sadly, I believe Fantasy Flight Games have been sold and nothing of Genesys has been made since. And the dice are out of print as far as I can tell and are going for a lot on used market sites. I am so happy that I got my hands on a set years back but do regret not getting a second set. With the way the rules to Genesys (and even the Starwars game) you almost need a second set of dice to accommodate for mid-maxing and character advancement.

I have one set of Starwars Dice and one set of the Genesys dice. The symbols are arranged the same and share similar functions, so technically I have two sets of the same game system, just for different settings. I am hoping Genesys makes a comeback because it is a fascinating RPG system that in a small way removes the crunchyness of a d20 system. And I’m a sucker for colorful dice with cool odd differences outside the usual pips or numbers.

And anime . . . is anime and I have been watching it. There is one anime called Ruri Rocks that has been an interesting info anime about mineralogy. It’s about a little girl who loves pretty rocks and she runs into a grad student who mentors her and educates her in all things rocks. There is only a sub version of the anime and a lot of texts go by fast which does make it a challenge to absorb information.

The rest of the anime I have been watching is entertaining but nothing that stands out like Ruri Rocks. The usual Isekai shenanigans or fantasy misfits coming together to be the best there is. Or both. I have been watching some romance animes, like Honey Lemon Soda and A Couple of Cuckoos. I watched Honey Lemon Soda for breakfast and it gets really trope with the shy girl coming out of her shell because of the pretty touch guy’s encouragement. And a Couple of Cuckoos has its moments but wow, it does get annoying how it builds up to something interesting only for it all to be brushed aside as a misunderstanding and the status quo remains. It gets kind of annoying after a while but I’ll still watch it for dinner or if I’m bored.

Then there is Given. I have not finished this anime but I read about it and I will admit, I’m not into the whole “boy love” thing. I get there is a market and audience for it but it’s not my thing. I’m more into the typical “him + her” romance or a “girl love” anime that’s not a slapstick comedy or hentai or both (which is rare). But what I have read about Given is that it's not overt or predatory and after watching a few episodes, it does play the romance slow and sweet. So far, the anime’s main focus has been about the main character teaching the quiet loner how to play guitar and asking the shy-guy to join his band. There are hints of romance and it actually becomes an interesting story as it has gone on. I’m interested in seeing where the story goes. Also learning about music is always a plus to me, I feel I miss my calling getting into music because it has always fascinated me.

“Nyaight of the Living Cat” finished its first season and by Great Cthulhu, this anime is a blast. It’s goofy as all hell. It is sometimes horrifying but also one of the most adorable and funny things I’ve seen in a while. I won’t spoil anything about it because it is worth a watch. Check out a trailer and if you are down for it, enjoy! The end credits of the last episode hint to a second season and I am so hoping it does get renewed. So good!

Wow, I had a lot to say for this blog, surprise-surprise. And I had to turn off the podcast because it was playing too many silly rap-hiphop songs that were distracting me. I can’t laugh and write at the same time.

I’m going to renew my site for another year and if I’m going to do that, I probably should stick to posting every week. Hopefully I can continue this kind of momentum or at least add enough fluff to make the updates interesting and not just “I’m not writing and have nothing to say” filler blogs. I’m still considering only doing one blog a month though. We shall see.

Good Luck and NYAAAA!

So I rolled both sets and this is what I got:

ree

I think its two successes, five advantages, and one dark side point. No, now that I look at it, it might be one success, five advantages, and one dark side point. What do you think?
