ZOMG! It’s another week. And I work late on Wednesday, so I have to do this beforehand, YEAH! Scheduling an update again.
And . . . I got nothing. Once again, apathy and MEH is real. I have a few bullet points of interest. I have not heard any news on how my comics sold at the con. Crossing fingers were sold a lot. My allergies were in full season at the literal start of September but that’s normal. And they have not been DANK since last week. Crossing fingers on that. And it is likely that ads will not be on the site for the following year after all. Won’t get in on that behind the curtain BS but I’m okay with the site being how it is for another year.
I got stupid addicted to Loop Hero again which is my fault for turning the timer off. I got hooked on a new podcast and wanted something to do as it played. My Loop Hero Timer is back on and at the very least, I have not been addicted to any other games. I’ve pretty much peaced-out of the Fallout Shelter game but my account is still active, so I might go back to it. And Stardew Valley is the ultimate chronophage and I have been avoiding it. I do miss gaming but I have to limit my Loop Hero Time. It is amazing how much time goes by when you're fixated on the game.
I found a new podcast called “But Make it Scary” which has been a blast. The podcasters take a romance movie and turn it into a horror movie. It’s a lot more funny than scary but some of the guests make the movies legit horror stories. Their “Groundhog Day” horror take was right up my alley with an Eldritch Horror twist. 👍 All Thumbs Up 👍
Honestly, yeah, this online-journal-entry-a-week every Wednesday is showing its wear and tear. I’m not the kind of person that seeks out excitement and I like living a laidback existence. The most exciting thing I did in the last month was have my comics consigned. There are really no new movies or shows on streaming I am interested in seeing then talk about. Not even the anime I have been watching really is worth a rant. I mean, some of them feel like I should dedicate a whole article to them.
Damn, I got distracted and went into a deep dive with Brooksfilms, which was Mel Brooks’ film production studio. The podcast “But Make it Scary” just did a twist with the 1986 version of the Fly (by making it a romance movie, which was fun). And I had never seen the movie but it fascinates the living hell out of me. I keep looking up stuff on this movie and just be enthralled with how EEEW! it all is. It’s like a mythical beast that I want to see but is so grotesque I know it will change my psyche forever like an eldritch horror. And fun fact, Mel Brooks produced The Fly and also David Lynch’s The Elephant Man under Brooksfilms. What I find fascinating is that those two movies I have mentioned seem to be the most successful and recognized, even comparing the Fly with the box offices of Mel Brooks’ own directed movies.
I love Mel Brooks movies, even his more obscure stuff has its charms. But I feel that Brooks could have continued to produce dark and horrific movies. Then again, Brooksfilms also did other horror movies like “The Fly 2” which very few remember and “The Doctor and the Devil” which seems to be forgotten. And then he did horror comedies like “Dracula: Dead and Loving it” which I wanted to like because Leslie Nielsen is Dracula and that should have been fun. But that movie saddens me to think about. So yeah, maybe The Fly was a happy (in a dark sense) accident and Mel Brooks stayed in his wheelhouse.
Wow, I got so much MEH going on with these blogs lately that I literally went into a Wikipedia rabbit hole and just ranted about it. I should review movies, like do a live diary of watching classics like “The Fly” or forgotten Brooksfilms movies like “The Doctor and the Devil.” Meh. Yeah, Meh is about right.
Good Luck and go watch some Mel Brooks movies,
—BUCK
PS: I have a boxset of all these Mel Brooks movies, which includes his forgotten movies like “The 12 Chairs” “To Be or Not To Be” and “Silent Movie.” Which are all fine movies but they are not as memorable as classics like “Blazing Saddles” “The Producers” and my personal favorite “Young Frankenstein". Damn, there is a horror comedy done right and it just goes to show, lightning doesn’t always strike twice and nigh impossible to capture in a bottle a second time. Looking at you “Dracula: Dead and Loving It” *shakes head in disappointment*
